Back in the Saddle Again...

So I gave Art the month of December off - which when I look back at it, it was just as much a month off for me. I was getting burned out on getting Art ready to show in 2010 and needed a break just as much as he did.

I started him back up this month and he has been quite the pill - scared of everything and a lot harder to ride down then I remember. Most likely the culprit is the weather - cold, windy and today, snowy. I had a lesson with Carla on Saturday and Art seemed to calm right down after a little work, so that was a good sign. He also rode around with other horses and wasn't a complete spazz - another good sign.

Our first APHA show is in March. Everyone loves the way he looks and moves, so I'm hoping for the best. I realize now that I need to make sure I have plenty of time to ride him down before he starts showing, otherwise we can just forget about keeping his attention. He's a pretty awesome horse, but I think this is just the tip of his, well, awesomeness. His lines are known for maturing slowly, so he'll probably be a hell of a horse when he's five. Not that he's not a helluva horse right now. ;)
